Stoas University of Applied Sciences and Teacher Education
Stoas University is the only university of professional education in The Netherlands specialized in teacher training in the agricultural sector. It was created as a separate institution in 1981; up till then agricultural teacher training was part of the agricultural colleges (now universities of applied sciences) CAH Dronten, HAS Den Bosch and the School of Tropical Agriculture, Deventer. Stoas University offers both a regular Bachelor and a Master programme for training teachers, trainers and extension specialists in agricultural education and knowledge management. The Master course is focused on learning and innovation.
Stoas University also offers a one year international degree program on education and knowledge management in agriculture.
One of the foremost international Stoas units is The European Floral Design Academy (EFDA). This academy offers worldwide courses in flower arrangement and entrepreneurship. The Stoas Centre of Expertise is a research centre aiming at action and theoretical research on learning and teaching in agricultural and land management education.
Stoas has 850 students and 100 staff, and has a track record of projects focused on international teacher training.
